IMPHAL, Jan 21 While Manipur is celebrating its 42nd Statehood day today, the Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) renewed its demand for a separate Kuki State and threatened to launch a Quit Kukiland movement which includes blockade on Highways passing through Kuki-inhabited areas from 5pm of January 24.

KSDC general secretary H Benjamin Mate made the announcement before the media besides reading out a press communiqu of KSDC at Churachandpur town, this afternoon.

KSDC which is seeking a political dialogue for recognition of Kuki State, said despite promises the Centre has failed to initiate political dialogue on the demand of creating a separate Kuki State.

KSDC representatives went to Delhi on January 14 and sought to apprise the Home Minister on the need to settle Kuki political issue before any solution with the NSCN (IM) as they continue to claim large parts of Kuki territory as Naga traditional land, the communique added.

It further threatened that there will be no celebration to mark the Republic Day of India in Kuki areas. The KSDC will also burn the Indian flag on January 26 as a mark of severance of ties between Kuki nation and the Indian State, it warned.

The communiqu urged the Kuki militants supporting Kuki Statehood to stand behind the KSDC to achieve Kuki peoples ultimate political goal of governing themselves in their land.
