KMSS warning

Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

GUWAHATI, Sept 18 Voluntary organization Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) today warned the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) authorities not to go against the wishes of the people of Assam.

The NHPC Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) SK Garg had told a private TV channel yesterday that it would not be possible on the part of the power company to demolish the structures of the Lower Subansir Hydroelectric Power Project (LSHEP). As, he reasoned, an amount of Rs 4,000 crore has been spent on them.

The KMSS said in a press release here that such a stand on the part of the NHPC authorities would never be acceptable to the people of Assam. For, they were not consulted prior to the initiation of the implementation of the LSHEP.
