GUWAHATI, Sept 26 Welcoming Chief Minister Tarun Gogois announcement about eight departments being handed over to the CBI for probe in connection with the alleged Rs 1,000-crore NC Hills scam, the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti today said that the Chief Minister should also enhance the time period for the investigation from 2001 till date.

In a statement, the KMSS said that while the Chief Minister restricting the CBI probe to just five departments as done earlier would have had an adverse impact on the investigations, and that it had all along been demanding bringing all the departments under the ambit of the probe. However, the Chief Minister should make clear his stand on the period which the probe will cover, it said.

The KMSS also questioned why departments like Finance, Planning and Development, Panchayat and Rural development, and Hills Area Development were being left out of the purview of the CBI probe.
