DIPHU, July 15 - To encourage farmers of Karbi Anglong, a series of kisan melas are being organised in the four legislative Assembly constituencies of the hill district � Diphu, Howraghat, Bokajan and Baithalangso � by the Department of Agriculture, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).
Following the successful kisan mela held recently at Donkamukam under Bailthalangso Assembly constituency, a large agricultural fair was organised by the Department of Agriculture at Longkam Terang auditorium, Dokmoka under Howraghat Assembly constituency on Sunday.
Before the formal inauguration of the kisan mela, a public meeting was organised by the Agriculture department where Mongal Sing Timung, EM for Agriculture, Ashok Teron, EM for Health & Family Planning, Bidya Sing Rongpi, EM for PHE department, Timothy Das Hanse, Director of Agriculture (Horticulture), Government of Assam and senior officials Mahesh Rajbongshi, District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Nabin Chandra Doley, Assistant Director of Agriculture, Karbi Anglong, SK Tiwary Subdivisional Agriculture Officer were present.
The meeting was also addressed by Ashok Teron, Bidya Sing Rongpi and Mongal Sing Timung.
Hundreds of farmers and local people thronged the kisan mela. The farmers welcomed and admired the advanced technologies and new ideas to suit their local needs. Different agricultural inputs and mechanical tools were given free of cost to the farmers.
Two more kisan melas will be held shortly in Diphu and Bokajan Assembly constituencies respectively.
