Kickboxing body honours Sonowal

GUWAHATI, Aug 31 � The North East Association of Kickboxing Organisations (NEAKO) on August 28 felicitated Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of State (Independent) for Sports and Youth Welfare here.

A NEAKO delegation led by MKP Shimray and Biswajit Kakoti, president and secretary general respectively also discussed with the Minister the measures to be taken to develop kickboxing in the North Eastern region.

They also apprised the Minister that kickboxing as a regular discipline has already been incorporated in the National School Games since 2006 and Delhi Government has also recognised it as a sport.

They also requested the Minister to become the chief patron of the organising committee for the first ever National College Kickboxing Championship to be organised by Assam Kickboxing Association (AKA) at Sarusajai Sports Complex, here starting from October 28 next. The effort of NEAKO to present Kreera Ratna Awards to eligible sportspersons also came up during the discussion, a press release said.
