Keeping close tab on Meghalaya border: Patowary

Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

GUWAHATI, Sept 28 - The State government is keeping a close tab on the situation along the Assam-Meghalaya border in Kamrup district, where a team of officials from the Public Health Department (PHE) were assaulted by miscreants from the neighbouring State earlier this month. Regular police patrolling is being carried out in the region, said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary during the Zero Hour in the Legislative Assembly today.

Regular patrolling has been started. The government is monitoring the situation, he said.

Patowary said that Meghalaya has a permanent picket in the area and that Assam must also do the same by setting up a permanent picket. The concern of the House will be conveyed to the Home Department, he said.
