GUWAHATI, Sept 24 - Zubeen Gargs Kanchanjangha is all set to topple Bahubali 2: The Conclusion as the highest grossing movie ever released in the State.
Till date,SS Rajamoulis magnum opus Bahubali 2 has held the record of being the top money spinner in the Assam circuit with a whopping collection figure of over Rs 5 crore.
Kanchanjangha, which has already surpassed Bollywoods big-ticket movies likeDangaland3 Idiotsin terms of collection in the State, is likely to surpass Bahubali 2 in a weeks time.
Kanchanjangha collected a whopping Rs 40 lakh on the day of its release, which is a record in itself. Shyamantak Gautam, who co-produced the movie, told The Assam Tribune that the gap between Kanchanjangha and Bahubali 2 is fast narrowing in terms of collection of money in the State.
Till Sunday, Kanchanjangha had nearly touched the Rs 5-crore mark. Today, it stands at a striking distance of Bahubali 2. We are pretty sure that Kanchanjangha will cross the benchmark set by the second instalment of the Bahubali franchise in a few days, Gautam said.
Its a just a matter of time, as the movie that is into its third week, is still going great guns, believes Siddharth Goenka of Goenka Enterprises (film distributor), which has released the movie in different parts of the country along with the State.
Kanchanjanghais actor-director Zubeen Gargs third directorial venture afterTumi Mur Mathu Murand MissionChina. His last movie, Mission China, too was a runaway success.
History is in the making. An Assamese breaking the records set by superhit Bollywood movies was unheard of. It goes without saying that it has set an all-time high collection record for any Assamese movie, said Goenka.
What is even more heartening is that for the first time an Assamese movie is being screened in Gujarat, Cochin and even Chennai, he said. The movie has already been screened in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata and Hyderabad.
