GUWAHATI, July 11 - In view of the rising Covid-19 cases in the city, the kabarsthan committees of Guwahati have decided to provide funeral service to the Covid-19 victims at the kabarsthans of their respective areas following government guidelines.

The decision was taken today at a meeting organised by the citys eight major kabarsthan committees at the Ulubari office of the Sarania Kabarsthan Committee. Representatives of the Garigaon Kabarsthan Committee, Hatigaon-Sijubari Kabarsthan Committee and Athgaon Kabarsthan Committee among others, were present at the meeting.

A coordination committee has also been formed with senior advocate Nekibur Zaman as its chief convener.

Families of people who die of COVID-19 suffer a lot when it comes to burying their bodies. If the government hands over the body, the coordination committee of kabarsthan committees of Guwahati will take steps to bury the body of the deceased with due religious customs and government regulations framed as part of precautionary measures, the coordination committee said.

If any person from outside Guwahati dies here due to Covid-19 and the family cannot take the body back home, the coordination committee will help the family in this regard, the committee added.

The coordination committee urged the government to provide all necessary items including PPE kits. It also appealed to all the kabarsthan committees of the State to do the same.
