DIPHU, June 22 - Police resorted to lathicharge and blank firing to control a crowd which pelted stones at them and tried to enter the strongroom set up for the counting of votes for the KAAC polls held recently in the hill district, at Diphu HS School today. A policeman and a journalist sustained injuries during the stone pelting incident.

Chaos prevailed at the counting centre as a section of people created unruly scenes, alleging that security personnel did not accompany officials while the postal ballot boxes were being carried to the centre. The protesters also alleged manipulation of the valid postal votes and demanded a re-election.
