Jyotirupa one-act play competition concludes

GUWAHATI, Feb 21 - The 41st edition of the three-day Jyotirupa North East One-Act Play Competition concluded here today.

Dengrali Creators Hub, Sonapur, which staged the play Bhumikanya, was adjudged the best team.

Vaas Theatre Group from Puranigudam was declared the second best theatre group in the competition for its play Adhikar Ek Bishad Gatha. Mrinal Kumar Bora was adjudged the best playwright for the same play. The third best team award went to Naatshala, Bajali for the play Devikabya. Rajen Das, who directed Devikabya, won the best director award.

Anjal Bora won the best actor award for his role �Raj� in the play Adhikar Ek Bishad Gatha. Swagata Bharali was adjudged the best actress for portraying the characters �Surpanakha�, �Kunti� and �Hirimba� in the play Bhumikanya.

On the occasion, prominent actor Mirel Kuddus, known for his comedy acting, was felicitated by Jyotirupa. A member of the jury of the competition, Sadhan Hazarika, felicitated the renowned actor with a gamusa, a bouquet, a shawl, a memento, a sarai and a citation.

Speaking on the occasion, Kuddus lauded the efforts of Jyotirupa in keeping alive the tradition of one-act play and mono acting. In his brief speech, he spoke about his journey into the world of film and comedy.

�The State needs more such activities to provide a platform to our young generation,� he said.

The jury of the competition comprised Sadhan Hazarika, Purnima Pathak and Subheswar Das. Nibedan, Nagaon got the jury special mention award for the play Beliye Kua Sadhu. Monimala Das got the second best director award for the play Bhumikanya. The second best male actor award went to Jitumoni Mahanta, while Mitu Kashyap got the second best actress award.

Panchakanya, Khanapara was adjudged the best disciplined group.

The Kishore Thakuria Memorial Mono Acting Competition prizes were also given away at the event. Gitima Das and Kamal Lochan Deka got the first and second prizes respectively, while the third prize went to Alaka Mahanta Baruah.
