Justice Hrishikesh Roy appointed as SC judge

GUWAHATI, Sept 19 - The President of India today appointed Justice Hrishikesh Roy, Chief Justice of Kerala High Court, as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office, an official release said.

The other three new Judges of the Supreme Court appointed today are Himachal Pradesh Chief Justice V Ramasubramanian, Punjab and Haryana Chief Justice Krishna Murari, and Rajasthan Chief Justice SA Ravindra Bhat.

As Supreme Court Judge, Justice Roy will have a term till February 1, 2025.

Justice Roy, hailing from Assam, was the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court (from August 8, 2018) prior to his appointment as Supreme Court Judge. Earlier, he was made a Judge of Gauhati High Court in October 2006. He had passed his LLB from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi in 1982. Initially enrolled under the Bar Council of India of Delhi, he shifted to Guwahati and was designated as Senior Advocate of Gauhati High Court on December 21, 2004.
