Jorhat meet pays homage to Rajkumar Ajit Narayan Singha

JORHAT, Sept 11 - A memorial function was organised here on Sunday to pay homage to Rajkumar Ajit Narayan Singha, a direct descendant of the last Ahom King Purandar Singha, and the Mouzadar of Jorhat town (No. 1), who passed away on August 19.

The function, organised by a group of well-wishers of Late Singha, who was also a known writer and a columnist , was held at Jaya Bhawan here.

Speakers while paying rich tributes to the scion of the Ahom royal family, recollected their fond memories with him (Singha). The Principal of Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya Dr Munindra Konwar was one of the key speakers.

Ankur Borgohain, a budding poet and a journalist, who was one of the organisers, said that on the ocassion Bunfi (a ritual of the Ahoms for the dead) was performed simultaneously at the campus by a group of Mulungs (Ahom priests) for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
