Jorhat AASU providing home delivery of medicines

JORHAT, April 6 - The Jorhat district unit of AASU during the lockdown period has come into the aid of people in need of medicines by providing home delivery of drugs without charging any extra delivery charge.

Assistant general secretary of Jorhat district unit AASU, Bijoy Shankar Bordoloi, told this newspaper that the students� body after obtaining the due permission from the district administration, since March 31 have been delivering medicines to the people by buying medicines from pharmacies after receiving copies of prescriptions through WhatsApp.

He said that the bill of the medicines purchased was provided to the people and money for the same was collected during delivery.

Bordoloi said that till date, 941 families in Jorhat town and on the outskirts, up to 20 km from here, have benefited from the service.

He said that the AASU Jorhat district unit had given few WhatsApp and phone call numbers area-wise of their members on the social media and local newspapers to contact them to avail the delivery service.

The AASU office-bearer said that the service was provided by members of the organisation, including him, by using eight two-wheelers after obtaining the passes from the district administration authorities.

He said that the service will continue during the lockdown period and stated that the cost of fuel incurred in offering the service was borne by the AASU members as their contribution in the fight against outbreak of COVID-19.

Bordoloi said that they have received a lot of support from the public for the initiative with large number of people complimenting the students� body for the service.

Bordoloi added that all instructions like social distancing, using had sanitizers have been followed by the AASU members while providing the home-delivery service.
