GOLAGHAT, April 19 � An Independent MLA in the outgoing Assembly Jiten Gogoi was today arrested on the charge of assaulting a woman activist of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), reports PTI.
Acting on an FIR by Jaya Kachari, Gogoi was arrested and was subsequently released on bail. Police has asked him not to leave Golaghat without prior information. The AGP has threatened to launch a fast and block the road if Gogoi was not punished.
Gogoi was an Independent candidate in the just concluded Assembly election while his AGP rival was Atul Bora.
