SHILLONG, March 31 - The Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) has been brought under administrators rule by the State government from today.
The JHADC would be under the Governors rule for six months, said minister in-charge District Council Affairs, HDR Lyngdoh.
A special cabinet meeting was convened after some members of the council moved a no-confidence motion against the Council chief, Lamdibok Sumer and the budget could not be passed.
The Chief Minister and other ministers felt there was no options left, but to bring the JHADC under administrative rule, Lyngdoh said.
An estimated budget of Rs 98.97-crore for 2011-12 was tabled in the Council on March 22 for discussion and subsequent approval on March 23.
But two Independent members of the Council Moonlight Pariat and Edmund Speakerson Lyngdoh moved a no-confidence motion against Sumer forcing the Chairman Obil Kyndait to adjourn the Council.
However, the next day former council chief Hambertus Nongtdu and Speakerson Lyngdoh moved a resolution against the chairman himself and he was forced to prorogue the council leading to a constitutional crisis.
Nongtdu has claimed majority support in the 30-member Council.
