HAFLONG, July 6 - Japanese Encephalitis has claimed one life in Dima Hasao district on Saturday.
It is learnt that one Kunjalata Hakmosa, aged 60 years, a resident of Hatikhali in Dima Hasao was admitted to Haflong Civil Hospital on July 4 with fever and was tested positive for JE. She breathed her last at about 11.35 am on Saturday.
As soon as the case of JE was detected, the Dima Hasao Health Services activated all the medical services and launched awareness campaign on precautionary measures throughout the district. The Superintendent of Haflong Civil Hospital, Dr Kalpana Kemprai said she that she had alerted all the staff and others to maintain vigil.
Joint Director, Health Services Dr Diplai Barman has appealed to the people not to panic and to take precautionary measures such as use of mosquito nets, mosquito repellents, cover the body, maintain cleanliness around houses, avoid stagnant water and to keep piggeries away from residences. She said that all medical teams have been alerted about the disease and advised to create awareness about the precautionary measures to be taken.
