DERGAON, July 27 - The process of NRC update is continuing in every nook and corner of Assam. Residents of Golaghat district are also busy in the process. Beginning with tracing the Legacy Data Code to submission of the NRC form, the citizens are facing different interesting moments.

Though the anxious faces of the general people is natural, yet the things are different for the jail inmates. The inmates of the Golaghat Jail, situated at Bagarijeng, are very much happy to take part in the update process. Though they are in the jail right now, but after the expiry of their terms of imprisonment, they will be back in their homes, to live with their families. Hence, they are trying to include their own names as well as of their children in the NRC. And that is why, the jail authority has made special arrangements so that the family members of the 453 inmates of the jail can meet their kin concerned for NRC- related matters within the stipulated time. The authority has accorded special permission to take special information related to father, grand father etc., of the inmates. The family members are also allowed to take photographs, signatures etc., whenever necessary. And this has brought about a festive mood among the jail inmates in the name of the NRC update process.

Some of the inmates are yet to meet their family members and the extension of the last date for form submission has been welcomed by them. It is pertinent to mention that a total of 453 persons are in the jail out of whom 421 are males and 32 females. Among these, 129 (123 males and six females) are serving life sentences. It is worth mentioning that similar to the NRC, the jail authority has also provided special arrangement to an NGO for the AADHAR card preparation and 200 inmates have already received AADHAR cards so far. The cooperation of the jail authority in these matters has been widely praised in the district.
