GUWAHATI, Sept 23 - The All Assam Freedom Fighters Sons and Daughters Association has expressed grave concern over some alleged serious irregularities in the name of welfare schemes of freedom fighters families in the State.

The Freedom Fighters Sons and Daughters Association discussed the alleged irregularities committed by the All Assam Freedom Fighters Association at a general meeting held in the conference hall of the Asom Chah Mazdoor Sangha here on Sunday. The meeting, presided over by Phuleswar Bora, discussed the adhocism and selection of freedom fighters beneficiaries list by the All Assam Freedom Fighters Association.

Addressing the gathering, Sarat Rajkhowa, treasurer of the All Assam Freedom Fighters Sons and Daughters Association said that there are no freedom fighters in Assam except for three or four by now. But, contrary to ethics, the All Assam Freedom Fighters Association is being run by some people who were not freedom fighters but have been allegedly involved in financial anomalies, he added.

The present Freedom Fighters Association of the State selected some fake freedom fighters names for pensions in an illegal manner and submitted the list to the Chief Ministers Office, Rajkhowa alleged. Moreover, the welfare funds meant for the freedom fighters families of the State were allegedly misappropriated by the office-bearers of the All Assam Freedom Fighters Association in connivance with a secretary in the Chief Ministers Office and some officials in the home and political departments of the State Secretariat, he said.

The meeting demanded a high-level inquiry into the funds sanctioned to the All Assam Freedom Fighters Association Assam for years together. Since there is not a single freedom fighter in the Freedom Fighters Association, the meeting demanded that the body be dissolved and the fund meant for freedom fighters families operated by the Deputy Commissioner concerned, according to a press release issued here today.
