Inter-college fest begins at GU

GUWAHATI, Sept 1 - The Gauhati University Inter-College Youth Festival 2019 kicked off on the university premises today with a four-day programme, a press release said.

The festival, which will conclude on September 4, has been organised by the Post Graduate Students� Union (PGSU) under the GU Sports Board.

The festival is being centrally organised at GU after zonal festivals were held at four different zones. This year, around 700 participants from 63 colleges, selected at the zonal-level festivals, are participating in the youth festival.

In the inaugural programme, chief guest Prof Pratap Jyoti Handique, Vice Chancellor, GU, hoisted the university flag. Prof Handique wished all the participants good luck and said that along with academics, co-curricular activities are equally important for overall growth of the students.

Attending the programme, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, general secretary, AASU, in his speech, said that the inter-college youth festival is a noble platform for students to showcase their talents.

AASU president Dipanka Nath inaugurated the cultural procession and praised the students for their vibrant cultural rally, showcasing the cultural traditions of Assam.

Dr Ranjan Kumar Kakati, director, students� welfare, GU, and secretary of the GU Sports Board, welcomed all the participants and team managers. Dr Kakati said the festival was being conducted with all the conditions in mind and utmost care would be taken so that the event meets best possible professional standards.

The inaugural programme was attended by a host of other dignitaries.
