GUWAHATI, Sept 1 - Indian students only wish for a job after finishing education. This mentality of a comfortable life through a job must give way to innovative entrepreneurship, Rajya Sabha member Dr Subramanian Swamy said here today.

Swamy said this during an interactive session with students of Royal Global University (RGU) on the topic India An Emerging Economic Power. He urged the youth of Assam to know their history and be proud of the 600 years of Ahom rule in undivided Assam, which the Moghuls could not topple despite all efforts, a press release stated.

He said there was a difference between Harvard and Indian students. The former would take risks but the latter tries to get a job after finishing education.

If America can discover the Internet and jet engines, India has a rich legacy of intellectual exercise and legacy of discoveries in maths, science, arts, astrology, astronomy and trade, he said.

Till 1200 AD, India was a land to be reckoned with, till invaders plundered it. When the Britishers left India, its economy was reduced to nil. He said India is the third economic superpower after the US and China, and can overtake China in 10 years if all Indians worked towards it.

The cost of education in India and the US may differ but the quality remains superior in India and there is ample proof of Indians holding top posts in Google, Microsoft, etc., he said.
