GUWAHATI, Dec 15 - Aakuali Care Services, a city-based service provider on mental fitness and lifestyle amongst elderly citizens, launched an initiative focusing on mental ailments of elderly people, on Monday here.

The initiative was inaugurated by actress Prastuti Parashar. National awardee for best teacher Ranu Borgohain was the guest of honour of the event.

The services under the initiative include dementia care, medical emergency care and weekly counselling sessions.

We need to make sure our elderly get the best care possible even when their relatives are not around and this is exactly where Aakuali Care Services has taken a step to fulfil their duties, said Parashar at the launch event.

The initiative is primarily focused on senior citizens living with dementia, where Alzheimers disease is the common form. Dementia is one of the most common diagnosed mental ailments in the present society. It is societal taboo that has barred people from seeking professional help. We hope to move forward through this initiative to help the elderly citizens in need, with proper care, counselling and companionship, said Debastuti Baruah, psychologist.
