Influx problem may hit NE states: Biren

GUWAHATI, April 4 - Participating at the concluding function of the Namami Brahmaputra festival here, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh today said that Assam has to lead the way in fighting the problem of influx.

�The main problem in Assam is illegal migration. All the northeastern states should help Assam to solve this problem or else it will hit them too,� he said.

He said Assam is the leader of the Northeast and it has to lead way and we (rest of the northeastern states) will support and follow.

Singh lauded the Assam Government for organising the Namami Brahmaputra festival to showcase the potential of the mighty river at the global level.

�This effort of the Assam Government has left a mark as to how important nature is. It highlighted the potential of the river,� he said.

He also invited his Assam counterpart Sarbananda Sonowal to visit Manipur during the annual 10-day Sangai Festival, the largest tourism fest in that state.
