Infant rescued, husband-wife abductor duo held

JALUKBARI, July 21 - A one-and-a-half-month-old infant kidnapped from the Guwahati Railway Station on July 3, was rescued by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), Kamakhya Station, from a rented house in Loco Colony, Pandu, this morning. The kidnappers, identified as Manik Sarkar (32) and his wife Pinki Sarkar (26), have been arrested.

Sources said that, based on a tip-off, a joint operation was launched by the RPF and GRP in Loco Colony, Pandu, this morning and the baby rescued from a rented house.

The arrested couple are currently under GRP custody. Investigation is on to unearth actual cause of the kidnapping. The baby, after being produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, was handed over to its parents, who hail from Raha, Nagaon.
