IMPHAL, July 19 - Expressing solidarity with the ongoing ILP (Inner Line Permit) movement in the State, around 500 elderly men in their traditional attire staged a sit-in demonstration at Lamlong Keithel (market) in Manipurs Imphal East district on Sunday.
Speaking to media, KPAL president K Sarat urged the State Government to resolve the ILP issue as soon as possible besides re-opening schools and colleges to resume normal classes.
Manipur had been witnessing widespread public protests demanding introduction of a new regulation such as ILP to regulate influx of outsiders (non-domiciles).
The senior citizens also demanded immediate talks between the government and the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the killing of Sapam Robinhood, so that the unclaimed body of the student lying at the morgue of JNIMS in Imphal, could be claimed for the last rites.
Meanwhile, the JAC in its meeting at Khurai resolved to continue the ongoing agitation unless the police personnel and officer involved in the July 8 action wherein Robinhood was killed were punished. The meeting also decided not to claim the body of the student unless a pro-people Bill is prepared by the State Government.
