TEZPUR, Nov 24 � Laxmi Orang, who was physically assented during the Beltola incident five years ago, has started a three-day hunger strike from today at Tezpur Nehru Maiden along with some of her supporters.
The government had instituted an inquiry regarding physical humiliation of Laxmi Orang. Though a few persons were taken into custody, but Laxmi is yet to get a clear picture on punishment of the culprits. The agitationist also demanded Scheduled Tribe status for Adivasi people residing in Assam and enhancement of daily wages of labourers by the small and major tea gardens in Assam.
