BONGAIGAON, Sept 24 - A team of security forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, belonging to NDFB militants, buried in a forest area at Gabrukhunda in Chirang district today.

The team comprised personnel of the police, 5th Garhwal Rifles of Indian Army and 54 Battalion Shashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

Based on a tip-off, the team conducted a joint operation on Monday night and on Tuesday morning, its personnel dug up a few places in the forest area, which is 18 km from Panbari Police Station and 70 km north-east from Bongaigaon, and recovered 9 factory made rifles, 11 country made rifles, over hundred ammunitions of different rifles, 4 pistol magazine, 17 kg plastic explosives, two China made hand held radio sets and other explosive materials.

The recovery is a major blow to the National Democratic Front of Borolands (NDFB) faction led by most wanted leader of the outfit G Bidai and also a success in thwart the outfits possible anti-national strikes, said Deepak Pandey, Commanding Officer of 5th Garhwal Rifles at a news meet held at his Kajalgaon camp in Chirang district this evening.

The arms recovery place was once a hide-out of G Bidai and noticing the cover of the weapons, it seems they were buried at least one and half year ago, Bijni Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Prakash Medhi, who was also present at the news meet, said.

The recovered items would be kept at Panbari police Station for further investigation, the SDPO said.
