GUWAHATI, Feb 27 - Professor Dr Subhash Khanna of Guwahati was declared president-elect of the Indian Gastro intestinal Laparoscopic Surgeons Society for the years 2017 and 2018 at the 14th annual conference of the association held at Hyderabad from February 8-11. The Indian Association of Gastro intestinal Endo Surgeons (IAGES) is an organisation of surgeons formed to promote and spread advancement of endoscopic surgery throughout India and beyond.
Dr Khanna would be the first among the surgical fraternity of the State and the North-east to be elected president of a national surgical body.
The Indian association was started by pioneer surgeons across the country in 1993 led by founder president and this year�s Padma Bhushan awardee Dr Tehempton Udwadia and later was led by the likes of Padmshri Dr Pradeep Chowbey, Dr BC Roy Awardee Dr Ajay Kriplani among others.
Dr Khanna was invited by Dr Udwadia to join the association in 1994 as the first executive member from east India and later he became vice president of the association for three consecutive terms.
