NALBARI, Aug 20 � Senior pro-talk ULFA leader Hira Sarania who is commander of the outfit�s 709 battalion, was today detained by the police on charges of extortion and abduction bid.
According to police sources here, a team of city police arrested the ULFA leader from the designated camp at Helacha in Nalbari district in the wee hours today.
Police sources claimed that the pro-talk ULFA leader was found involved in the abduction and extortion from a businessman, Ranjan Lohia of Guwahati city.
The police had first arrested one Pankaj Kalita from the camp three days ago. After verification of phone call lists police achieved some breakthrough regarding Sarania�s involvement.
In this connection police also arrested two youths Pradip Chaudhury and Charafroj Ali from Nalbari and Baksa districts. Both are said to be very close to Sarania. The police said that the pro-talk ULFA leader is also involved in the killing of Binit Jain, an employee of Lohia.
