GUWAHATI, Oct 2 - Help Age India observed International Day of Older Persons today with the theme 'Universal pension for senior citizens'.
An event organised here to mark the occasion saw a turnout of over 100 eminent senior citizens from different locations of Guwahati and North Lakhimpur.
Nilondra Tanya, State Head Programmes (North East) of Help Age India, in his welcome address, explained in detail the Pension Parishad's demands for universalisation of pensions, including old age pension, disability pension and widow pension.
He also explained the objective regarding formation of the Pension Parishad, which has been instrumental in its campaign for universal pension for all senior citizens.
