Heart Care Society, Assam celebrates World Heart Day-2018

GUWAHATI, Oct 2 - The Heart Care Society of Assam, Guwahati chapter celebrated World Heart Day-2018 with various programmes. This was stated by its secretary Dr Bikash Rai Das in a press release.

It may be mentioned here that World Heart Day is celebrated on September 29 every year and it is the World Heart Federation�s and the world�s biggest platform for raising awareness about cardiovascular diseases, including heart disease and stroke. This year, the global campaign focuses on looking after our own hearts, and the hearts of our loved ones.

Talking about the Heart Care Society, the vice president of Heart Care Society of Assam, Arup Kumar Das while addressing a press meet held recently at the Guwahati Press Club informed that the Heart Care Society of Assam is the first registered non-profit NGO working for cardiovascular disease prevention in Assam since 1999. The Heart Care Society envisages a scenario where everyone will become aware of the problems of heart diseases and the importance of preventive and timely measures to live a better, longer and healthier life.

The Guwahati chapter of the Heart Care Society of Assam in association with Kichu Katha Kichu Gaan organised a public awareness meeting-cum-cultural evening at Vivekananda Kendra on the evening of September 28 where eminent filmmaker Dr Santana Bordoloi participated as the chief guest and released the multilingual souvenir Hridoy published on the occasion of World Heart Day.

A panel discussion was also held where Atanu Kumar Choudhury, Professor of Pragjyotish College; Anurekha Borkakoti, noted educationist; RJ Mandy, noted radio personality and Nabish Alam, actor and compere participated as panelists and discussed how heart disease can be prevented by raising awareness level through different medium and at different levels starting from the school level. The panel discussion was moderated by known heart specialist Dr Bikash Rai Das.

An awareness programme was also held at the Guwahati Press Club on September 29 to share the power of knowledge with the journalists in preventing heart diseases. An audio-visual presentation was delivered by Dr Bikash Rai Das to that effect. Dr NK Bhattacharjee, founder president of the Heart Care Society of Assam was also present and elaborated on the significance of the World Heart Day. An interactive session was also held where senior members of the Heart Care Society answered queries of the journalists.
