GUWAHATI, Aug 29 � The Gauhati High Court today issued notices to the Union Government, the Assam Government and the Sports Authority of Assam, the Indian Olympic Association, the Sports Authority of India and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare in response to a PIL highlighting neglect and lack of maintenance of the Sarusajai Sports complex. The Court has also issued notice on the interim prayer which is to stop all non-sporting activities within the Sarusajai Sports Complex and to close down/remove all offices and camps from the complex which are not related to sports.
The PIL was moved by senior lawyer Bhaskar Dev Konwar, who in his PIL also questioned as to where the money raised by selling of flats in the Games Village has gone.
At present, the complex houses 108 ambulance office, a CRPF camp and it also allows parking of vehicles by Tata Motors. Indoor stadium inside the complex is also used for hosting marriage parties while athletic ground is used as a helipad, the PIL mentioned.
There is also an allegation that the vendor supplied inferior quality gym equipment.
�While the synthetic track is damaged, the seats in upper gallery are in total disarray. Moreover, all the solar lights are missing and all electronic equipment including the electronic touchpad of the aquatics complex are also damaged.
