Harangajao-Migraindesa link: Meter gauge rail to be preserved

NEW DELHI, Aug 19 � The Meter gauge section from Harangajao to Migraindesa in the Dima Hasao district is planned to be preserved as heritage, Minister of State for Railways, Bharatsinh Solanki said in a Rajya Sabha reply to a question by Bhubaneswar Kalita.

The Minister, however, added that no proposal has been received to run luxury tourist trains in this sector.

About electrification of the New Jalpaiguri-Guwahati rail line, the Minister said it is part of the Barauni-Katihar-Guwahati including Katihar-Barsoi, which is a sanctioned railway electrification project, for which adequate budget provision have been kept during 2011-2012.

In reply to a question by Kumar Deepak Das, the Minister further said that work for electrification between Barauni-New Jalpaiguri-Guwahati is planned for completion during 12th Plan period, as the electrification from New Jalpaiguri to Guwahati would only be useful after the electrification of Barabanki-Gorakhpur-New Jalpaiguri.
