Guwahati sitting pretty against Silchar

GUWAHATI, April 25: Poor show by batsmen put Silchar in trouble as Guwahati took total control in the final of the Nuruddin Ahmed Elite Group Senior Inter District Cricket championship.

On the opening day of the four-day match at the Nehru Stadium here today, opting to bat first, the visiting team failed miserably to tackle the pace-spin combination of Guwahati and were shot out for a paltry 118 in 57.3 overs in their first innings.

At stumps, Guwahati were 100 for two. Abhijit Sinha Roy and Rajib Kalita were at the crease with 38 and 16 respectively.

Rishab Das and Pallab Das were the Guwahati batsmen out for 37 and without scoring respectively. Pritam Das took both the wickets for Silchar.

Earlier, Silchar lost their first wicket in the form of Rajdeep Das (0) at team�s total of three. After that the second wicket partnership between Raju Das and Naman Sharma added 23 runs and the fourth wicket partnership between Samik Das and Mihir Barman resulted 35 runs which were the successful partnerships of the Silchar innings. After Mihir�s departure at 78 for five, wickets started tumbling in quick succession. Aamik Das was the top scorer with 24 while Sukanta Dey contributed 18.

Offie, the hero of the semifinal against NF Railway Sports Association, again became the destroyer with a rich six-wicket haul. Pacer Sujay Tarafdar and skipper Bhaskarjyoti Barman were the other successful Guwahati bowlers with two wickets each.
