On a heavy underfoot condition at the Nehru Stadium here today, the local outfit edged past Baarhoongkha Athletic Club 2-1 riding on an injury time goal by Newson Kom.
It was a fast-paced encounter as players toiled a lot to ground. But due to slippery ground condition, both the teams had to concentrate on guarding their respective forts instead of going all out. The host team went 1-0 ahead in the 28th minute when Mobin Rai deflected the ball into the net off a flag kick taken by Abhichek Rai. But in the 41st minute lanky Nigerian striker Nwukwu Michael drew parity with a beautiful opportunistic goal. Receiving the ball from a goal kick taken by Guwahati FC custodian Santi Ranjan Das, Michael Drovw home with a firm and controlled 30-yard shot.
The match was going towards a draw as the injury time was on. Just before the final hooter Ashis Chetry took a shot from inside the box but the ball rebounded off the Baarhoongkha goalkeeper Anil Duwarah. Kom made no mistake in punching home to give his team a much needed victory.

Both the teams played their planned game in basic technique. But mainly due to poor ground condition and some silly mistakes, some easy scoring opportunities were wasted.
