SHILLONG, Nov 24 - Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy has declined to accede to the State governments request for imposing Administrators Rule in Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council (KHADC), an official said.

The denial by the Governor is a shot in the arm for the newly elected Chief Executive Member Latiplang Kharkongor and his newly formed Executive Committee after the State government recommended Administrators Rule in the council.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had said that the State government has recommended Administrators Rule in KHADC after the Teiwell Dkhar-led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) executive committee lost a no-confidence motion moved by the Opposition Congress on Wednesday.

The Governor has declined to accede to the State governments request for imposing Administrators Rule in KHADC, a Raj Bhavan official said.

Four-time KHADC member Kharkongor was elected unopposed as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Council. The UDA had boycotted the election of the CEM.
