JALUKBARI, July 3 - The official website of the Gauhati University was repeatedly hacked from 3:55 am this morning, but was later restored by the university authority.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, Professor MP Bora, who is also chairman (web management) of the GU website, said, There have always been attempts to hack the GU website and from 3:55 am this morning a hacker made repeated attempts to hack it. But he only managed to hack the front page of the website; the rest of the data of the university are completely safe and secure. There was no breach of data.

Prof Bora further said, The students data portal is completely different. There is no link of students data, examination data, etc., with the GU website, so we need not panic. The hacker only managed to deface the front page, which is being restored by now. The student fraternity need not panic as the students portal cannot be breached.

The claims made by the hacker that he has access to all the data is completely baseless as the university data are stored in a different Claude device, Prof Bora informed.

We are taking all necessary precautions and building a new platform which will be functional by next two to three months. Day by day the hacker are coming up with newer tools to hack, so we, the university need to upgrade the system at regular intervals so that the website is not breached in future, he added.
