GUWAHATI, Sept 20 - Gauhati Town Club (GTC) rallied to hold Guwahati Sports Association Super Division champions Assam State Electricity Board Sports Club (ASEB SC) 1-1 in a Group B league match of the 66th Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament.
In the evenly played inaugural match of the championship at the Nehru Stadium here today, after a goalless first half, Vishal Sonar broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute to put ASEB ahead. However, the GTC boys staged a spirited fightback and drew parity in the 88th minute through Arman Singha.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Inaugurating the premier tournament of the region, Sonowal said the organisers have to put maximum effort in order to regain the past glory of the championship. He also appealed the football enthusiasts of the State to join hands with the organisers so that the tournament gets back to its previous form. The Chief Minister advised the organisers to communicate with the South East Asian nations and invite their teams to take part in the Bordoloi Trophy. He also appealed the GSA members to invite Kolkata teams to add glamour to this prestigious tournament.
