GTC chess classic from tomorrow

GUWAHATI, July 20 - The Gauhati Town Club (GTC) Classic Chess, an Open international rating chess tournament is all set to begin on Wednesday here at the GTC club house.

The tournament has been initiated by the GTC to celebrate the successful completion of five years of the GTC Chess Foundation.

A total prize money of Rs 1,50,000 is at stake in this 10 round Swiss League event to be played over the next five days under classical time control.

The tournament has been recognised by the World Chess Federation (FIDE), All India Chess Federation and All Assam Chess Association (Adhoc Committee). Already over 150 players from across the country including five players from Nepal has confirmed their participation.

The tournament will be inaugurated at 9 am on July 22 and the matches will start from 10 am.
