TURA, May 5 The interim Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Garo Students Union (GSU), in a letter to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has sought action against errant cops involved in various atrocities within the Garo Hills region.

We would like to draw your attention to the unethical way of conduct displayed by Meghalaya Police in Garo Hills. The matter has created an atmosphere of concern and threaten the peaceful coexistence of the police and public, said Zikku BN Marak, interim president of the CEC.

It is understood that the police department has pledged to protect the citizens of the State, from domestic and external threats. We recognize the efforts put in by the police personnel, even risking their lives to uphold the spirit of the pledge. However, a few personnel have resorted to unethical practices in dealing with the people. It has now become imperative for your involvement in tackling the present state of affairs, added Rockyfiller M Sangma, secretary of GSU CEC.

The GSU threatened to launch an agitation in the Garo Hills region if the matter is not addressed properly. We will launch an agitation if there is no action against those involved in atrocities, the release added.
