Grants to Sikkim workers

GANGTOK, March 31 - In view of the hardships being faced by construction workers due to the situation arising out of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country and the ongoing nationwide lockdown, the Sikkim State Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board under the chairmanship of Labour Minister MN Sherpa, today sanctioned a one-time grant of Rs 2,000 to every registered worker to compensate them during the period of lockdown.

The compensations will be met from the Board of Construction Workers Cess Fund.

Sikkim has at present 7,836 registered building and other construction workers.
