TINSUKIA, May 30 - Lurinjyoti Gogoi, general secretary, All Assam Students� Union (AASU) has urged the new State Government to give special attention for the improvement of socio-economic as well as educational scenario of Sadiya keeping in mind its historical perspective and meet the hopes and aspirations of the people of the area.
Speaking to mediapersons at Dhola after visiting Sadiya on Sunday, the student leader further demanded that the Dhola-Sadiya bridge over river Brahmaputra should be completed within a time-bound framework for it would pave the way for easy communication to the remotest area of the State. The development of the Sadiya region depends on the completion of the bridge and the company which has been entrusted the construction works of the bridge should be given all type of facilities.
He further added that the Government should provide a special package for the development of Sadiya. Besides other office-bearers, the visiting team was also accompanied by its vice-president, Pulak Chetia.
Meanwhile, the new Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal was given a warm welcome yesterday at the Swahid Bhawan of Chabua regional unit of the All Assam Students� Union (AASU) where Sonowal paid homage to the martyrs of the Assam Agitation. He then arrived at his village Muluk Gaon accompanied by gayon-bayon, bihu and jhumur dancers.
He was felicitated by different organisations and individuals. The Chief Minister assured that he would work for the people and would never act against the interests of the people of the State.
