Governor Mukhi inaugurates Raas Festival at Ramdia

SUALKUCHI, Nov 12 - The 118th anniversary of Ramdia Raas Mahotsav started on Monday with 11-day colourful programme. Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi inaugurated the Raas festival organised by Ramdia Hitsadhani Sabha in association with Ramdia Raas Mahotsav Udjapan Samiti at Ramdia Bhaitheli Khola.

In his speech, the Governor said that he belongs to Brajadham where Lord Krishna was born and many festivals are held. �I am very much pleased to witness the Raas festival at Ramdia and other places in Northeast region,� he said.

Hajo MLA Suman Haripriya also addressed the gathering. Participating in the inaugural ceremony, Dr Nalin Devi Mishra, professor of Sanskrit Department, Gauhati University, explained the significance of Raas Lila, while litterateur pensioner Tilak Majumdar highlighted the focal points of Bhagaban Sri Krishna Raas festival.

Dr Jayshree Goswami Mahanta, distinguished writer, released souvenir Raas Rekha brought out on the occasion. It was edited by Sanjib Bharali.

As many as 118 distinguished persons were felicitated. Atul Kakati, president of Ramdia Hitsadhani Sabha, anchored the meeting.
