Gold biscuits seized

IMPHAL, April 24 - Customs sleuths today seized gold biscuits worth Rs 1.5 crore from a person in Imphal East district, an official said.

Assistant Commissioner of Customs RK Darendrajit said the man was arrested from Lamlong area by the personnel of Customs� anti-smuggling unit and gold biscuits worth Rs 1.5 crore were seized from his possession.

Darendrajit said that despite its small size, Manipur has become an important part of the route through which the yellow metal is smuggled from Myanmar and then transported to other parts of the country.

In March this year 97 gold bars worth an estimated Rs 4.8 crore were seized from a vehicle by the Assam Rifles in the hill district of Tengnoupal bordering Myanmar. � PTI
