GUWAHATI, May 17 Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has extended his heartfelt gratitude to the people of Assam on the eve of the completion of the fourth year of the third consecutive term in office on May 18.

In a statement today, the Chief Minister said the State had witnessed a major transformation in different sectors during the past 14 years due to the unstinted support and cooperation of the people.

The State Government has initiated a slew of development schemes and programmes for ensuring all-round development of the State and the welfare of its citizens. Since day one of the assumption of office in 2001, the Government has been fine-tuning the administration to make it people-oriented. Its motto has all along been serving the poor and downtrodden segments of society. Added thrust has been given on augmenting production and in raising the income of all sections of society, he said.

Gogoi said top-most priorities had been accorded to infrastructure development, agriculture and allied sectors, education, strengthening surface communication, sports, culture, information technology, power, industries and commerce, trade and commerce, etc. Besides giving focus on welfare of women and children, a slew of initiatives have been taken for the overall development of youths.

Gogoi said the present Government took over the reins of power at a most crucial juncture and catapulted the State towards the growth trajectory despite facing various problems and challenges.

The sea change in development would not have been possible without the continued support and cooperation from the people of the State. The Government is wholly committed to speedier development of the State in the coming days, he said, adding that though the State made remarkable strides in the past 14 years, it still has miles to go to attain all-round development.
