GUWAHATI, May 28 - The Greater Guwahati Qureshi Meat Association has decided to shift the goat market to the Assam Livestock and Poultry Corporation (ALPCO) premises at Khanapara.

On Wednesday the Guwahati Municipal Corporation held a meeting with officials of ALPCO and veterinary department and meat vendors in the GMC conference hall regarding shifting of the goat market to the modern scientific slaughter house on the ALPCO premises.

The GMC had evicted the goat market from Bhootnath on March 3 and asked the vendors to shift the same to the ALPCO premises. But the vendors in the initial period were not ready to shift the market. But now they will shift the market by Saturday, a source in the GMC said.

The ALPCO slaughter house will charge Rs 60 per to slaughter each goat. However, if there are more than 1,000 goats to be slaughtered then the rate will be reduced, a GMC notification said.

All vendors must wear 3-ply mask or cloth mask and maintain at least one metre distance from each other and general public while selling the meat. They must ensure good hygiene and sanitation practices at the meat shops to ensure food safety. Price list must be hung in front of the shops. All the requisite certificates and papers should be kept at the shops, the notification added.
