GUWAHATI, Aug 31 - Under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, boat veterinary clinics will be launched in Goalpara, Dhubri and Majuli districts this year. In the next phases, Kamrup, Barpeta, Nalbari and Darrang will be covered, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora said on Tuesday last.
Bora was speaking at a state level seminar cum biannual conference of the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department at the Administrative Staff College here today.
He also mentioned that Goalpara district has topped the country in the implementation of the Krishi Kalyan Abhiyan. Bora congratulated the officials of Goalpara involved in implementing the project.
�Unlike other departments, the developments which take place in the Veterinary Department are not visible to the people. But it is due to the efforts of the veterinarians that we have been able to prevent transmission of many diseases from animals to humans. Our government is working tirelessly to make the Department vibrant and active,� he said.
Laying stress on increasing milk production in the State, Bora asked the veterinarians to go for artificial insemination techniques.
He also hoped that NABARD and other agencies would assist farmers to increase egg production in the State.
The Minister also informed that under a World Bank project, the government would spend Rs 109.43 crore over the next seven years to meet the existing gaps and challenges in the pork value chain and milk value chain. The government is also creating �pigbandhus� to bolster the piggery sector, he added.
AAU VC Dr KM Bujarbaruah, Assam Livestock and Poultry Corporation Chairman Manoj Saikia, APC VS Bhaskar, NABARD CGM Rajashri Baruah, CEO, CMSGUY, and Commissioner & Secretary (Veterinary) Shyam Jagannathan, and Director (Veterinary) Dr PC Das were present on the occasion.
