GUWAHATI, Aug 4 The Bharatiya Janata Partys poll debacle in the Assembly elections in the State and the reasons behind it would come under the scrutiny of national party president Nitin Gadkari who will be visiting Assam from August 5.
Gadkari will participate in the election review meeting of the State BJP slated at Haryana Bhawan on August 6. It needs to be mentioned here that the party had gone overboard in its election campaigning with all the senior leaders travelling across the nook and corner of the State before the elections. It had come up with a vision document for Assam that had promises of fulfilling expectations of all sections of the population.
This would be the first ever election review meeting to be attended by senior national leaders and the meeting assumes significance in the backdrop of information that a section of party workers had been dissatisfied with the conduct of some State leaders in the run-up to the polls.
State party sources said that the election review meeting was an important step towards analyzing the shortcomings and loopholes in its organizational set-up and would give an opportunity to everyone to voice their opinion and grievances. Apart from the district presidents of the State BJP, all the candidates who had contested the polls would be present in the meeting.
The sources said that the poll defeat has not demoralized the party as it was confident that it would be able to win the support of the masses through its commitment to people-centric issues and the burning problems like infiltration and NRC update.
On the other hand, Gadkari will also attend the extended State office-bearers meeting scheduled on August 5. This day-long meeting will revolve around multiple issues, including the organizational strength of the State BJP.
The State executive meeting will be held on Sunday, but Gadkari will not be present at this meeting.
