Update: 2010-09-15 00:00 GMT

TINSUKIA, Aug 20 - Incessant rainfall here as well as in the catchment areas of the neighbouring State of Arunachal Pradesh since the last several days has caused a flood-like situation in Tinsukia district. Floodwaters have already inundated several villages namely, Nagaon, Balijan, etc., in the Guijan area of Tinsukia Revenue Circle and the Barekuri area of the Doomdooma Revenue Circle.

The rising Na Dehing river is posing a threat to the Dirak Sumoni embankment, endangering hundreds of villages under the Doomdooma Revenue Circle. Though the water level of river Brahmaputra is still below the danger level, the continuous downpour is likely to affect the district.
