GUWAHATI, Nov 26 - The Guwahati Smart City Limited (GSCL) today replaced the Tricolour atop Gandhi Mandap, which was torn on Sunday morning.
It was for the second time that the GSCL replaced the Tricolour hoisted atop the 319.5-foot pole. The flag was first formally hoisted on October 2 last and then it was replaced on November 17 after a tear developed in it.
A GSCL statement said that this type of tear or damage have also been seen to occur in the National Flags hoisted in high-mast installations of over 200-foot height across the country.
Mention may be made of the ones at Wagah, Ranchi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, which are facing recurrent damages, it said.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is in the process of framing a policy on hoisting the Tricolour at Nigdi Chowk only on important National days to counter the problem of such frequent damage, the statement said.
The authorities are also exploring ways and means to prevent such wear and tear, including the idea of changing the fabric so that it can withstand the wind pressure better, it added.
The GSCL is in constant discussion with the Bajaj Electricals Limited, the agency who had bagged the contract of setting up the pole and the flag, to find a permanent solution to the problem, the statement said.
