NAGAON, July 26 - In a bid to revitalise the regional Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) ahead of the ensuing 2016 Assembly election, a two-day extended general council meeting of the party got under way at Koliabor in Nagaon district today.

The day-long programme started with flag hoisting by party president Atul Bora, which was followed by paying homage to the martyrs by former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.

From 11 am onwards, a district-level meeting of the party workers was held. Senior leaders like Dr Kamala Kalita and Nur Hussain, among others, were present on the occasion along with thousands of grassroot-level district as well as State-level party workers.

All the speakers vehemently criticised the Congress government for rampant corruption, besides the ruling BJP party for its failure to fulfil their commitment to the people of Assam, which was made prior to the election.

As per the version of the party spokesman, the two-day meeting will try to devise a pragmatic strategy so as to regain the lost faith of the party among the States populace.
